Test Driving New Cars And How You Can Get More From Them

by Richard Hollins

Those who are buying a new car will usually be given the opportunity to take it for a test drive. It is important to always make the most of this opportunity. There is so much that you can learn about the car even in a short time behind the wheel. During the test drive, you could either decide that this is the car that you have to have or you may come to the conclusion that it is not exactly what you were hoping for.

Below are a few tips for how you can get more from the test drive.

Try to make the most of the time that you have in the car because your time will be limited. You may want to plan the route in advance because that is the best way to ensure you can take in a route with plenty of turns and with a number of different road conditions. Make sure that you have looked at a road map before you head off to the car showroom to look at the car.

It is important to check the interior of the car before you think about starting the engine. While you are looking around the inside of the car, you need to be critical and don't be put off by how new it looks and smells. Look at everything so you can check for things that don't feel right. A minor irritation now could turn out to be a lot more significant later on.

Try to put the car through its paces without driving dangerously. Check how the car is performing while you are driving at a constantly reasonable speed.

You will always be accompanied by the car seller during your test drive and this can be a real drawback. This individual may continue their sales pitch throughout the journey and this makes it hard for you to concentrate on the car. Instead of telling the salesperson to shut up, you could just try and ignore him or her.
